The author with a migraine during a visit to the Cradle of Aviation Museum.

Welcome to migraine discussions, my name is Michael Fernandez, and I’ve created this blog due to a lack of information on the topic of chronic migraines. I’ve been experiencing migraines since my early high school years, which means I’ve been suffering from migraines for nearly 9 years now. In that time my diagnosis has changed a few times since my health went downhill alternating from Status Migrainosus after a vicious bout of migraines and vomiting I attributed to the flu, to the current diagnosis which is Chronic Migraine with an underlying illness called Churg-Strauss Syndrome, I feel strongly that neurologists can make leaps and bounds in treating migraines much sooner if those of us suffering lay our lives out to all these researchers like an open book. In fact patient’s writing about their experiences should be far more common, a majority of the books I own on the subject are written by neurologists, psychologists, or snake oil salesmen(energy healing).

I don’t confine my writing to only my Chronic Migraines because the Stage 2 Churg-Strauss Syndrome is a type of vasculitis which can severely exacerbate migraines. This isn’t merely my opinion, but that of two world class specialists, both a headache specialist and rheumatologist from Mount Sinai in New York City. It’s rare to have such a clear target and diagnosis so quickly but my massive eosinophil count and positive ANCA tests led them to make that conclusion for certain without doing an open lung biopsy. I’m now in chemotherapy for remission and am soon to have my second treatment on Rituxan which my body hasn’t reacted all that well to. I just hope I don’t go on Cytoxan, that stuff will just plain kill me at this frail point in my life.

I just published my first eBook yesterday written slowly as I learned to write my poetry on this blog! It’s my first 30 true poems on chronic pain concerning Churg-Strauss Syndrome, this community, and of course Migraines! 1. Michael, Thank you so much for following my blog. I’m thrilled to have found you as I suffer from chronic headaches due to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. Your site is a wonderful resource that is of help to so many, keep up the great work. Happy Holidays! -Pamela-

  2. so glad I came across your blog as well! I was hospitalized the past 2 weeks for having a nonstop migraine– I’ve had 3 MRI’s, 2 spinal taps, and multiple cat scans done to figure out what is going on. I’m used to chronic pain but chronic migraines, not so much. It’s kind of scary because we don’t have many answers. My doctors think it is related to my vascular disease. It’s miserable, I can’t even imagine having chronic migraines as long as you have. 😦

  3. I have been following you on other forms of social media, but I am glad to have now found this blog. I can empathize with a lot of what you say here, but of course everyone’s story is so different. I try to write some on my blog about my headache story, but I decided to put the word headache right in the title because I have almost had headaches for half my life now and they have shaped my life. Thanks for your information and honest discussion. You are right. There should be a lot more from the ones who really understand. Thanks again.

  4. Hello from another migraine sufferer. I thought that I was done with them, alas, I guess not. I thought that getting a less stressful job was the answer as I was free of migraines for three glorious months after starting my current job…..as opposed to about 20 days of the month with headaches at my last, more stressful job. But I awakened with another one this morning. Have you heard much about acupuncture as a cure? I am considering doing this if it continues. I’ve heard that acupuncture has cured people of migraines and I might do this next if it gets as bad as it was. Anyhow, I’m glad to have found your blog and I’ll be perusing it a bit more later.

    • Hey I tried acupuncture for months and it does not cure migraine, there is no known cure or else those of us disabled by it would all simply do acupuncture. In my experience the only way it helps is to release the muscle tension in your back that may be associated with the migraines.
